Ridgewood is one of those towns that makes my job easy. Tree-lined streets, real downtown character, and parks with actual variety. If you live here, you do not need to drive far for beautiful family photos. You just need a plan.

This is that plan.

The Best Spots for Family Photos in Ridgewood

Saddle River County Park, Wild Duck Pond area. This is my top pick in town. The pond, the riverside path, the big open stretches of grass. It gives you water, trees, and open sky in one location, which means a full gallery without moving the car. Late afternoon light here is genuinely lovely.

Van Neste Square. Right in downtown Ridgewood, the park with the gazebo. It is smaller and more structured, which works well if you want a few classic frames mixed in with the natural ones. Good for families who want that Ridgewood downtown feel in their photos.

Grove Park. Thirty-two acres of beech forest with real walking trails. This is the spot when you want the session to feel like a walk in the woods rather than a park shoot. In fall, it is quietly spectacular.

Irene Habernickel Family Park. Ten acres up in the north end of town with mature trees, open space, and a pond. Less crowded than the bigger parks, which matters when you have a toddler who needs room to roam.

When to Book

Fall is the obvious answer and the honest one. Ridgewood in October is the reason people move to towns like this. But that also means October weekends book first, usually weeks out.

If you are thinking about fall photos, reach out as soon as the idea crosses your mind. Spring is underrated here too. Everything is green, the parks are empty, and the light is soft.

What to Wear

Coordinate, do not match. Pick two or three colors that sit well together and let everyone build from there. Ridgewood sessions tend to look best with a slightly elevated casual feel: nice jeans, boots, layers, textures. Avoid neon and big logos. You want to look like your family on a really good day.

What a Session Is Like

My family sessions are 45 minutes, guided but natural. I will tell you where to stand and what to do, then get out of the way and let your family be your family. Every image gets edited and delivered to a proof gallery, and you keep your 20 favorites.

The Essential Family Session is $399. No stiff posing, no forced smiles. The photos you end up loving are almost always the in-between ones.

A Note on Timing Your Day

With little kids, late afternoon is the sweet spot in Ridgewood. The parks empty out, the light goes warm, and you are shooting before dinner meltdowns. I time every session for the best light of the day, and I will be honest with you about what time that means for your date.

Ridgewood families tend to know what they want: real photos, no production, something that actually looks like them. That is exactly what I do.

Is it golden hour yet? Andrew,
