Fort Lee Family Photographer

Fort Lee is one of the most visually interesting places to shoot in all of Bergen County. You've got the Hudson River, the Palisades cliffs, the George Washington Bridge sitting right there in the background — it's a location that does some of the work for you. Not every photographer leans into what makes Fort Lee unique. I do.

I shoot family sessions here regularly, and what I've found is that Fort Lee families tend to be busy, practical, and want something that looks great without a half-day commitment. One hour, a location that actually means something to where you live, photos delivered in two weeks. That's the deal.

Where We Shoot in Fort Lee

Fort Lee Historic Park is the anchor spot. The views of the Hudson and the Manhattan skyline behind your family are genuinely hard to find anywhere else in New Jersey. The park has enough variation — open fields, tree lines, overlooks — that we can build a whole session without it feeling repetitive.

The area along the Palisades gives you that dramatic elevation and cliff backdrop if you want something more striking. It photographs differently than a typical park session and tends to produce images that really stand out.

For families in the high-rise buildings along Main Street or near the bridge, I'm also happy to build a session around your neighborhood — there's good light and architecture throughout Fort Lee that most photographers overlook because they're focused on the obvious spots.

What does a family photo session entail

The Essential Family Session is a guided but natural outdoor shoot, no stiff poses, no forced production, just an easy afternoon together. We'll spend time outside at one of my go-to locations in Northern, NJ or somewhere we agree on together. I'll give gentle direction when it helps and step back when it doesn't, since some of the best moments happen when everyone stops thinking about the camera.

Afterward, every image from your session is fully edited and delivered to a proof gallery, where you choose your 20 favorites to keep. Want more? Additional images can be unlocked at booking for a discounted rate, or after delivery at the standard rate. Once you book, you'll get a confirmation along with everything you need to prepare for your session.

FAQ

What are the best spots for family photos in Fort Lee?

Fort Lee Historic Park is my first recommendation — the Hudson River and GWB backdrop makes for photos you can't get anywhere else in Bergen County. The Palisades overlooks are great for something more dramatic. If you live in Fort Lee proper, your neighborhood might work too depending on the light and setting.

What should we wear?

Neutral and coordinated. Blues, greens, creams, and warm tones work well against the natural Palisades backdrop. Against the bridge or skyline, you have more flexibility — darker tones can look striking. Send me a photo before the session and I'll give you a quick read.

Is it worth shooting with the George Washington Bridge in the background?

It can be — it's iconic and puts a real sense of place in the photos. But it's not always the right call depending on the time of day and what you're going for. I'll usually get a few shots that include it and a few that don't, so you have options.

What time of day works best in Fort Lee?

Golden hour — the hour before sunset — gives the best light anywhere, but Fort Lee is particularly good in the late afternoon when the sun hits the Palisades from the west. Early morning also works well if your family is up for it and you want softer, cooler light.

The session with Andrew was great! He made me feel so comfortable, and the pictures came out great. I will most definitely use Andrew again.
