Paramus might be known for its malls, but it's also home to one of the best parks in all of Bergen County for a family photo session. Van Saun County Park is massive, beautiful, and gives you more variety in one location than most other towns can offer across several spots. It's where I send Paramus families first, and it rarely disappoints.

Where We Shoot in Paramus


Van Saun County Park is the anchor. It's a 146-acre Bergen County park with open meadows, wooded trails, a pond, gardens, and enough variety to build a complete session without ever feeling like you're stuck in one spot. The Bergen County Zoo sits inside the park — which makes it a natural hit with kids — and the surrounding gardens and green spaces give you beautiful backdrops without the zoo backdrop itself.


The pond and garden areas within Van Saun are my favorite sections for sessions. The light hits well in the late afternoon and the setting feels genuinely scenic rather than like a municipal park.


For families who'd rather keep it simple and local, shooting in your Paramus neighborhood is always an option, especially in fall when the residential streets have good color.

What does a family photo session entail



The Essential Family Session is a guided but natural outdoor shoot, no stiff poses, no forced production, just an easy afternoon together. We'll spend time outside at one of my go-to locations in Northern, NJ or somewhere we agree on together. I'll give gentle direction when it helps and step back when it doesn't, since some of the best moments happen when everyone stops thinking about the camera.


Afterward, every image from your session is fully edited and delivered to a proof gallery, where you choose your 20 favorites to keep. Want more? Additional images can be unlocked at booking for a discounted rate, or after delivery at the standard rate. Once you book, you'll get a confirmation along with everything you need to prepare for your session.

What are the best spots for family photos in Paramus?

Van Saun County Park, without question. It's one of the most versatile parks in Bergen County — good for every age, great light in the late afternoon, and enough variety to build a full session in one location. The garden and pond areas are the highlights.

Can we incorporate the Bergen County Zoo into the session?

The zoo is inside Van Saun Park but sessions typically stay in the surrounding park areas rather than inside the zoo itself. That said, shooting near the entrance or garden areas close to it is totally doable and kids tend to love being in that part of the park.

Is Van Saun Park crowded on weekends?

It can be, especially on fall weekends. I recommend weekday evenings or early weekend mornings for the best light and the least foot traffic. We'll pick a time that works.

What should we wear?

Van Saun's gardens and meadows work well with warm, natural tones — greens, creams, burgundy, warm neutrals. The setting is lush enough that simple, coordinated outfits photograph better than anything too busy or bold.
