Ridgewood Family Photographer

Ridgewood is one of the most photogenic towns in Bergen County — the downtown, the residential streets, the parks — and families here tend to know what they want. They've seen good photography before and they're not looking for something generic.

I shoot sessions in Ridgewood regularly and what draws me to it is the variety. You can do something polished near Van Neste Square, something natural and wooded at a local park, or something personal on your own block. A lot depends on your family and what feels right. We'll figure that out before the session.

Where We Shoot in Ridgewood

Van Neste Square in the center of downtown is one of my favorite backdrops in Bergen County — the fountain, the surrounding green, the architecture. It's particularly good in the evening when the light softens and foot traffic dies down. It gives you something that feels polished but not stiff.

Graydon Park is the other spot I come back to. Good tree coverage, open grass, and enough space to spread out and let kids move. It's the kind of park that photographs well in any season but especially in fall when the color comes in around the edges.

The residential streets in Ridgewood are genuinely beautiful — particularly the blocks with mature trees and older homes. If you live in town and want photos that actually feel like Ridgewood, your own neighborhood might be the best location of all.

FAQ

What are the best spots for family photos in Ridgewood?

Van Neste Square for something polished and downtown, Graydon Park for something more natural and open. Your own neighborhood is also worth considering - Ridgewood's residential streets photograph beautifully, especially in fall.

What time of year is best in Ridgewood?

Fall is the most popular — the color in Graydon and throughout the residential streets is genuinely hard to beat in Bergen County. Late spring and early summer evenings are a close second. Summer midday heat is the one thing to avoid.

Is downtown Ridgewood too busy for a photo session?

It depends on timing. Early evening on a weekday is ideal — the light is soft and the square clears out. Weekend afternoons can be busier, but we work around it. I scout the timing based on what you want the images to feel like.

What should we wear?

Ridgewood sessions tend to look best with classic, clean outfits — nothing too trendy or busy. Neutral tones, soft colors, simple layers. The downtown backdrop in particular rewards outfits that don't compete with the setting.

Andrew did a fantastic job at my wife's baby shower. He is professional, on time, and easy to work with. Highly recommend!
